Body Lift

If loose, baggy skin covers multiple areas or large portions of your body, a body lift may be able to help you get rid of the extra skin and reveal a firmer, slimmer shape.

When is Body Lift The Right Choice?

Patients who seek body lift surgery typically hope to remove hanging, excess skin and smooth body contours in some combination of the following areas:

  • Abdomen
  • Back
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Buttocks

It is important to remember that although nearly any man or woman with significant loose skin can benefit from body lift surgery, the procedure is only suitable for patients who are healthy, at a stable weight, do not use tobacco products and are cleared by our board certified anesthesiologist to undergo general anesthesia.

How Body Lift Treats Sagging Skin

Body lift surgery is customized to address each patient’s individual cosmetic concerns. During the procedure, inconspicuous incisions are aligned with natural body folds, creases and contours near problem areas. This enables Dr. Ward to cut away extra skin and reposition tissues, providing you with tighter, smoother skin that is more closely formed to your underlying shape.

Post-Operative Steps: What to Expect After Body Lift Surgery

A body lift is an extensive procedure that typically results in a longer recovery period and more discomfort than most other plastic surgery procedures. But don’t worry, Dr. Ward will help you prepare for the post-operative phase by providing you well in advance with aftercare instructions, prescriptions for pain medication and antibiotics and access to compression garments that you will need to wear for several weeks after surgery. Dr. Ward will also talk with you about showering procedures and ways to minimize body lift scars, including avoidance of sun exposure.

You should expect to have drains in place for about a week after surgery and will probably need 2-3 weeks off work. You should not plan on resuming aerobic or strenuous activities until about six weeks after a body lift.

In his 25 years as a board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Ward has performed many procedures to tighten skin and sagging tissue on the body.
