Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, can help correct moderate to severe sagging in the breasts and restore them to a perkier, more youthful position.
If you’re a healthy, non-smoker who is approved for anesthesia by our board certified anesthesiologists, a breast lift may be the best option to help you correct:
Breast lift surgery is often combined with procedures designed to increase or decrease breast volume. To address sagging, deflated breasts or tuberous breasts, a breast lift with implants may be recommended, whereas heavy, stretched breasts may be improved with a breast lift and breast reduction.
The mastopexy procedure works to lift sagging breasts by removing excess breast skin and tissue. Depending on how much sagging you experience, Dr. Ward will use a periareolar, lollipop or inverted-T incision to remove loose skin and restore an uplifted breast shape.
A periareolar incision will go all the way around each areola and correct mild sagging. The lollipop incision combines a periareolar incision with a vertical incision down the bottom of each breast to correct more significant sagging. The inverted-T incision corrects severe sagging and is often used in cases where significant breast reduction is also required. This incision combines a lollipop incision with another incision along each breast fold.
Dr. Ward will see you within a day or two following your breast lift, after which time you may shower. Remember not to soak or immerse your incisions in water, as this can cause problems with healing. Follow post-operative care instructions carefully, wear an approved sports bra, take pain medication as prescribed and rest on your back to avoid putting pressure on your breasts.
Within a week or two, the initial breast lift recovery period has typically ended and patients may return to work. After three weeks, aerobic exercise may be resumed. Breast lift scars will fade over the next several months with appropriate sun protection.
