The traditional brow lift, also called a coronal brow lift, is a proven procedure with lasting results. It lifts and smooths the forehead to correct signs of aging. Brow lift surgery is among the proven plastic surgery procedures offered by Arlington plastic surgeon James Ward. MD F.A.C.S.
Brow lifts are suitable for patients who are displeased with the signs of aging on their forehead. This technique is able to address many different visible signs of aging on the forehead.
Sun exposure, loss of collagen, and gravity all play a role in how the skin of your forehead ages. As forehead skin ages, it will sit lower on the face and may even cause the eyelids to appear hooded. As the position of the eyebrows changes, deep wrinkles can form. The traditional brow lift is one option to correct these signs of aging.
A brow lift:
A traditional brow lift is not a good choice for those with a high hairline or male pattern baldness. The surgery will involve a scar that must be hidden in the hairline. During a consultation at his Arlington plastic surgery practice, Dr. Ward can confirm if you are a good candidate for the brow lift.
A traditional brow lift is started by making an incision above the hairline. The skin of the brow is raised and repositioned. Excess skin may be removed, and the incision is closed. When the skin is lifted, any forehead wrinkles will be smoothed out. The eyebrows will appear in a higher, more youthful position on the raised brow.
Following a brow lift surgery, you should expect temporary changes to your forehead's mobility. Dr. Ward will provide instructions about incision care, and tubes may be placed at the surgical site to allow fluid to drain. You may have your forehead taped or your head wrapped after surgery. You will need to rest for five to ten days so your wound can heal. After the healing period, you will have long lasting surgical improvement to the visible signs of aging on your forehead. Risks of brow lift surgery include changes or loss of sensation, changes to the motor functions of the face, and nerve damage.
