Chemical Peel

Light chemical peels refer to a proven skin treatment that can address several skin concerns. For a chemical peel, a chemical treatment is briefly applied to your face and then removed. This stimulates exfoliation and improves the skin's condition.

When Is a Light Chemical Peel the Right Choice?

If you want to improve your skin but do not want a risky procedure and long recovery, consider a light chemical peel. If you choose to get a light chemical peel, you will not have to take time off work. You will be ready to return to your daily tasks right away with no recovery time.

Light chemical peels treat skin conditions such as:

  • Acne,
  • Rough skin,
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Other signs of photoaging

Many different chemicals are used for light chemical peel treatments. Generally, chemical peels that are considered light use an alpha-hydroxy acid. Light peels, while they provide a quick improvement, are not as effective as high-strength chemical peels.

Because everyone's skin is unique the results of a light chemical peel will vary. You may need a series of light chemical peels to achieve the best result. Please be aware that glycolic acid peels are only recommended for people with a light skin tone. If necessary, Dr. Ward can recommend an alternative light peel to patients with darker complexions.

How Does a Chemical Peel Treat Problem Skin?

During a chemical peel, a chemical treatment is applied to the skin. Treatment times vary based on the type of chemical used and the desired result, but are generally less than twenty minutes. Light chemical peels stimulate exfoliation of the skin. The exfoliation improves the appearance of acne and signs of aging. The chemical peel will also stimulate your skin's natural collagen and elastin production.

Post Procedure: What To Expect

After your chemical peel, your skin might be flaky and it may look as if you have a mild sunburn. This is temporary. You are advised to avoid any skin care products that involve alpha-hyrodxy acid (AHA), beta-hydroxy acid (BHA), or retinoids on your skin for two weeks following a chemical peel treatment. Sunscreen is recommended after a chemical peel to protect your skin. Sunscreen will also reduce future photoaging.
