Corrective Breast Augmentation

After breast implant surgery, patients can be dissatisfied with their results for a variety of reasons, and corrective breast augmentation is a revision surgery procedure designed to address these issues.

When is Corrective Breast Augmentation The Right Choice?

Whether a complication occurs or you’re simply unhappy with the size, shape or other characteristics of your breast implants, Dr. Ward can redo the breast augmentation procedure or remove your breast implants altogether to ensure you are happy with your breasts. Corrective breast augmentation is commonly sought by patients who experience the following:

  • Capsular contracture (hardened scar tissue)
  • Deflated or ruptured implants
  • Double bubble (implants migrate below breast fold)
  • Symmastia (implants migrate toward breastbone)
  • Dissatisfaction with implant size, shape, material or placement
  • Poor scarring

While not every issue with breast implants can be corrected, corrective breast augmentation can go a long way toward ensuring you get the results and look you want.

How Corrective Breast Augmentation Treats Unsatisfactory Breast Implant Results

Corrective breast augmentation procedures are customized to address your unique concerns and complications that arise with your breast implants. This typically involves removing and/or replacing your implants but may also include reparative procedures designed to stop implant migration or reduce scar tissue around one or both implants. Dr. Ward will draw on his 25 years of experience to choose the right combination of surgical techniques and help you achieve your breast enhancement goals.

Post-Operative Steps: What to Expect After Corrective Breast Augmentation

The corrective breast augmentation recovery period is often quite similar to your initial breast augmentation recovery. Unless you have experienced severe complications with your first breast implant surgery or require a complex revision surgery, such as symmastia repair, you can expect to be off work for up to one week and restricted from strenuous activity for at least three weeks.

For patients who have had their implants moved from an over the muscle location (subglandular) to an under the muscle or partially under the muscle location (submuscular), the corrective breast augmentation recovery period may be more uncomfortable and slightly lengthier to accommodate healing of the chest muscles.
