To help you maintain the beautiful contours of your lower face, which may begin to sag over time, plastic surgeon Dr. James Ward offers facelifts in his Arlington plastic surgery practice. This procedure firms and tones the skin of the lower face and jowls, removing excess pockets of fat and helping you appear younger.
For individuals who may witness the early signs of aging creeping across their face, Dr. Ward offers proven facelift procedures to reverse some of those unwanted conditions.
Recent studies of facelift surgery have found that, on average, patients report looking nearly 12 years younger and have improved self-esteem following a facelift. Facelifts can be performed to greatly reduce or correct the following:
Patients who undergo a facelift are usually between 40 and 60 years old. If you're considering a facelift, you should be healthy and not smoke. Any history of high blood pressure, blood clotting issues or a tendency to form excessive scars should be shared with Dr. Ward.
Before Dr. Ward begins your facelift, anesthesia will be provided by a board certified anesthesiologist. When beginning the two to three hour procedure, Dr. Ward will make an incision above your hairline at the temples, follow it down in front of the ear and then behind to meet your hairline. He will then separate the skin from the underlying fat and muscle, removing any excess and lifting the tissue for a smoother appearance. Excess fat will also be suctioned out before Dr. Ward uses stitches to close the incisions.
After your facelift, you should expect swelling and bruising lasting up to three weeks. Frequently, drains are placed at the time of surgery and removed on the first post-operative day. Dr. Ward will let you know when you can resume your normal routine and when it will be appropriate to apply makeup.
Possible side effects from a facelift may include hematoma and delayed healing.
