Lip Augmentation

If you desire full, luscious lips, you may want to consider lip augmentation with Arlington plastic surgeon Dr. James Ward. Using proven non-surgical techniques in the safety of the USMD Hospital, Dr. Ward can give you more kissable lips with a brief injectable treatment.

When Is Lip Augmentation the Right Choice?

Dr. Ward can use a variety of tried and true techniques to enhance the shape and volume of your lips. Using an injection composed of natural collagen or hyaluronic acid, Dr. Ward can treat conditions such as the following:

  • Thin or small lips
  • Drooping lips or loss of fullness
  • Lip lines and wrinkles

To undergo any type of lip augmentation performed by Dr. Ward, you should be a healthy nonsmoker, which will improve healing. You should also have realistic expectations for the outcome of the treatment. If you experience skin eruptions around the lips, please notify Dr. Ward.

How Surgeons Enhance Lip Size and Shape

To perform the most common type of lip augmentation, which utilizes an injectable filler, Dr. Ward will place injections a) where the lip meets the skin beneath the nose or b) where the wet and dry parts of your lips meet. These injection sites produce the most appealing result, while preserving a natural lip apperarance. A dental block or nerve block can help manage pain.

When beginning, Dr. Ward will use a special needle and technique to inject the filler along the upper edge of your lip. He will then mold the Cupid's bow, before moving to the lower lip and corners of your mouth. To avoid lumps and ensure proper placement, Dr. Ward may massage the injection sites.

Post-Treatment Steps: What to Expect

After your treatment, you may experience numbness from the dental/nerve block for up to two hours and some discomfort or swelling for a few hours. You should minimize movement of the lips immediately following your treatment as this may cause some of the solution to be more quickly absorbed. You should be able to witness the final result after two or three days, but bruising may linger for up to a week. The benefits of the treatment can last from three to six months.
