Similar in effect and procedure to a facelift, a neck lift can tone and tighten the neck. This proven procedure works to correct the sagging skin, muscle and tissue on the neck that can literally add years to your apparent age.
Both men and women of a certain age who exhibit saggy tissue on their necks may look into a neck lift with Dr. Ward. The neck lift is designed to correct unwanted conditions of the neck such as:
To undergo this procedure performed in the safety and convenience of the USMD Hospital, you should meet certain requirements. You should be a healthy non-smoker, as this will promote good healing. During your consultation, Dr. Ward will discuss your aesthetic goals, which can vary greatly across genders and between individuals. Based on this, Dr. Ward will devise a customized surgical plan for neck lift surgery.
Before Dr. Ward begins the surgery, his board certified anesthesiologist will administer a local anesthetic with sedation, though a general anesthetic is sometimes used. Dr. Ward will first make an incision in front of your earlobes that continues around the ear to your hairline. An incision may also be made below your chin if Dr. Ward is to remove fat, which will be done using a small tube called a cannula and liposuction techniques.
To correct visible neck bands, Dr. Ward will access the larger incision to fold and suture the muscle, possibly removing some if necessary. When satisfied with the result, Dr. Ward will close the incisions with sutures and apply a compression band, which will promote healing and proper contour.
After your neck lift, you will need to keep your head elevated, even when sleeping. You may experience swelling and discomfort and Dr. Ward will prescribe medication to manage pain. You must avoid exertion for two weeks and wear the compression strap for three weeks, which can be hidden with scarves and other clothing. After two to three weeks, you should be able to appreciate the benefits of neck lift surgery.
Some possible side effects of a neck lift may include temporary loss of sensation, poor aesthetic outcome, and formation of hematoma or seroma. Dr. Ward can explain the risks of neck lift surgery in detail during your consultation.
