Reconstructive surgery is one of the most rewarding avenues in which Arlington plastic surgeon Dr. James Ward practices. These procedures can rebuild breasts lost to cancer treatment, repair a scar that may limit mobility or repair an earlobe that has been damaged or torn to restore cosmetic appearance, among other life-improving procedures.
Breast reconstruction is performed after a woman has undergone cancer treatment and lost one or both breasts. Using implants or tissues from the patient's own body, Dr. Ward is able to rebuild the breast mound and eventually, the nipple areola will be restored, as well.
Skin cancer surgery is performed on some forms of skin cancer, like carcinomas. In this procedure, Dr. Ward will remove the cancerous tissue, leaving only healthy tissue intact. As necessary, he will also provide care to minimize post-surgery scarring where tissue was removed.
Due to a lack of skin, Dr. Ward may need to perform tissue expansion as a component of your reconstructive surgery. Using a balloon expander placed under the skin, Dr. Ward will gradually stretch the skin over a period of time, creating the necessary tissues to move forward with your surgery.
Scar revision may be necessary for scars that limit your mobility or for scars that you find unattractive. Dr. Ward will employ one of several techniques to restore the skin as much as possible cosmetically and to improve movement of the skin in the area. This procedure may involve a skin graft from another site on your body.
Earlobe repair may be necessary if you have worn large earrings or experienced a stretched or torn earlobe. This relatively quick procedure can restore the appearance of your earlobe and you may be able to get it re-pierced at a later time.
